Yesterday evening Miss World 2015 Mireia Lalaguna of Spain had her first public engagement as Miss World in the nation’s capital Madrid. Met by a wall of cameras at her first press conference since claiming the Miss World title, Mireia held a lively discussion with the gathered press, followed by a special banquet for all gathered at the Hotel NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding.
Mireia’s victory in Sanya last December was Spain’s first Miss World title in its 65 year history, and she was roundly congratulated by the gathered national and international press who packed out the press conference, which was preceded by a frenzied photo call, with agencies clamouring for pictures of Miss World. Speaking of her new role, Mireia said “I am so proud of my victory, not just for myself, but for my family, my region and my country, and I hope to represent them all as best as I can during my reign.”
A question and answer session followed, with some noting Mireia’s victory coinciding with a new format for selecting Spain’s representative for Miss World. 2015 saw Spain’s qualification process adapt to be more like Miss World, bringing in challenge events identical to Miss World. It was noted that with Mireia doing well in all events in Spain, she was better equipped to challenge on the international stage.
Following the Q&A with the media, Mireia was interviewed by all the major Spanish TV channels, including Aurelio Manzano of Telecinco, alongside several international outlets.
The evening ended with an evening banquet in Mireia’s honour, with guests and media invited to officially celebrate her victory. Later today Mireia will return to her home city of Barcelona, where she will receive a rapturous welcome at her homecoming tomorrow with a big welcome and a series of events to officially welcome her home!
